RESCUED FOOD PROGRAM

Rescuing tons of edible food that would otherwise go to waste and turning it into a beautiful, nutritious meal.

RESCUED FOOD PROGRAM

The core of our rescued food program is to rescue leftover cuisine and turn it into healthy and nutritious meals for those who need it most. In doing so we will not only be able to provide the necessary food supplies at a much lower cost than our current program, but we will also become “The” source for freshly prepared hot and healthy meals made available to other hunger relief agencies and housing shelters who are not able to provide their own high-quality food.

The Chef’s To End Hunger initiative was started by the team at LA Specialty produce. Their mission is to provide meals to the less fortunate by redistributing the excess prepared food that would normally go to waste in hotels, restaurants, and other foodservice operations. They already have the foundation and the logistical mechanisms in place to move rescued food from the hands of the donors to those organizations who can process and distribute it. They also have the collaborative relationships established to move their program to a national level.

Just how much food do Americans waste?

Here’s some “food” for thought: the United States discards more food than any other country in the world: nearly 40 million tons — 80 billion pounds — every year.

That’s estimated to be 30-40 percent of the entire US food supply!
